Community Organic Gardens of Sequim (COGS) About Community Organic Gardens of Sequim - Our History and Supporters
Interested in learning more about us? "In the Beginning..."
The idea for a community garden in Sequim came to a small group in 2006.
Our first garden, the Fir Street Garden, found a home with St. Luke's Episcopal Church. It opened in 2008 with support from multiple community entities.
Help came via grants from First Federal Bank, Sound Community Bank, and Sequim Community Foundation. In addition, individuals, businesses, and the Sequim Sunrise Rotary donated labor and physical property from hoses to fencing. Without this community support, the garden could never have materialized.

Initially, a local group dedicated to the preservation of farmland, Friends of the Fields, acted as the umbrella providing the Fir Street Garden with non-profit status. Later, Friends of the Fields was integrated with North Olympic Land Trust.
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church has also been an immense support in terms of space for the garden and extending non-profit status.
